VIRTUAL CEREMONY AS DELSU MATRICULATES 82 STUDENTS INTO OPEN DISTANCE & E – LEARNING INSTITUTE OF NURSING

In the year 2024, the National University Commission (NUC) had graciously approved the Open Distance and E-learning Programme for Delta State University, Abraka, as a strategic means of creating an online presence and opportunity for people to connect virtually at their conveniences to annul distance barriers and aids globalization dynamics. DELSU has not only ascended in ranking as the best State University in South-South and South-East and the third best State in Nigeria, but also grown to become an earnest digital institution in line with the advancement of technology; strengthening the conglomeration of people all over the world to access our academic prowess through online teaching, learning and research for the award of Bachelor Degree in Nursing .

Matriculation ceremony is a requirement in higher institutions and the oath is an admission into the intellectual community because it confers on fresh students , full rights of studentship. By this academic ritual, the students would become formally admitted into the Delta State University, Abraka.

One Hundred and Fifteen (115) candidates applied but only Eighty-Two (82) were offered provisional admission into the ODL Programme in Nursing. The pioneer matriculating pioneer students attended the ceremony virtually , live and direct from different geographical locations.

The people’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel O. Asagba duly repesented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Hilary Ijeoma Owamah, in his speech, noted that the university management has provided a flexible school fees payment plan for a successful online degree awarding programme including the provision of machineries being put in place for a flexible system to facilitate learning; these include modern information technology studio, modules, digital tools, and viable interactive platforms. He further announced that the university has begun the process of expanding the ODL programme to cover more Departments and Programmes in the 2025/2026 academic session as this will spread our reach to many university degree seekers all over the world. As a father, he urged the pioneer matriculants to be hardworking , observe the rules and regulations of the university and refrain from activities which are inimical to the growth of the University as well as living responsibly to contribute positively not only to the Nigerian society, but to the world at large.

The iconic first female Registrar of the institution, Mrs Rufina Ufiofio administered the matriculation oath on the matriculants as they chorused uniformly in coordinated repeatatable manner. She also encouraged the Nursing students to pursue this profession chosen by them with outmost diligence.
