Thursday, 13th March, 2025, marked a significant milestone in the lives of our inductees as they took the first steps on the journey of becoming thoroughbred pharmacy professionals. Seemingly, it has been a journey with cocktails of emotions, hardworking, perseverance, dedication and determination which has accumulated a noteworthy apothecary experience for their civility.

Speaking at the auspicious event of oath-taking/induction ceremony of the 14th (2023/2024) set of pharmacy graduands, the people’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel O. Asagba of the Delta State University, Abraka, duely represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor (Mrs) Rosemary N. Okoh congratulated the inductees and articulated that, though pharmacy is a challenging and dynamic profession, it’s therefore important for them to contribute to update themselves and display the highest standard of professionalism and ethics. He also urged them to be good and worthy ambassadors of our great institution Delta state university Abraka; which has grown from very modest beginnings to a highly rated center of teaching and research and has become the attraction of many young persons seeking admission into higher institutions.

The Faculty of Pharmacy under the leadership of Professor U. D. Adje (Dean) hosted the immediate past National President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Professor Cyril Odianose Usifoh, who spoke keynote address on “The young pharmacist in a depressed economy: Navigating the tortuous terrain”. The Registrar, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria , Pharm. Ibrahim Babashedu Ahmed administered the Pharmacist Oath on the inductees as they echoed uniformly in repeatable pattern . Many Awards were given to distinguished medics; among others was an Award of the Overall Best Graduating student 2023/2024 Academic Session to Pharm. Isreal Blessing Obodeh.

The Delta State University, Abraka SUG President, Amb. Comr. Augustine Onovughegor, the SA to the Delta State Governor on Student Affairs, Comr. Obaro Egagifo and the Executives from both Abraka and Oleh campuses.

DELSU’S youngest Professor, first & only Professor of Civil Engineering and current Director of Academic Planning, Professor Hilary Ijeoma Owamah , has been appointed by the Senate of the Delta State University, Abraka as Deputy Vice/Chancellor (Academic) following his nomination by the V-C, Professor Samuel Asagba at the special senate meeting held on Wednesday, 26th February, 2025. He will be resuming his new office from March 11, 2025 when the tenure of Prof. Ochuko Anomohanran ends.

The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, has urged families to encourage their children entering marriage to formalize their unions under both customary and civil laws. This, he emphasized, is crucial in safeguarding women from the discriminatory provisions of certain customary laws in Nigeria. Prof Asagba made this call in Abraka on Thursday as part of his remarks at the university’s 110th Inaugural Lecture titled “The Nigerian Woman under Customary Law Marriages: Free or Fettered?” which was delivered by Prof Omerionwan Kingsley Edu, a distinguished Professor of Law.

The Vice Chancellor pointed out that the common belief is that customary law marriages promote social cohesion and cultural preservation however, this lecture has revealed that it also contains certain anti-feminine provisions, including clauses that support the forced marriage of widows to their late husbands’ male relatives, the denial of women’s rights within marriage, restrictions on inheritance from deceased husbands, and instances of sexual harassment. He expressed optimism that these defects in customary laws identified by the inaugural lecturer can be addressed if families insist that marriages be conducted under both customary and civil laws.

Speaking on the topic of the inaugural lecture, Prof Edu highlighted the benefits of marriage to include serving as the root of the family unit, ensuring the continuity of the human race and conferring lifelong relationships on married partners. He pointed out that marriages conducted under customary laws are very common in Nigeria. According to the Professor of Law, most women in Nigeria prefer to marry under customary law, as it holds significant prominence and widespread acceptance among the majority of the population. He however presented case studies where marriages under customary laws had been unfavourable, biased and degrading to women. Prof Edu emphasized that judicial interpretations of laws protecting women highlight an urgent need to reform and modernize customary marriage and inheritance laws to ensure that women married under customary law receive equitable rights and protections.

Present at the lecture were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof (Mrs) Rosemary Okoh; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof Ochuko Anomohanran; Provost of Oleh Campus, Prof Elo Ibagere; Registrar, Mrs Rufina Ufuoma Ufiofio, alongside other principal officers and the University Orator and Chairman of Ceremonials, Prof Enajite Eseoghene Ojaruega, who presented the citation on Prof O.K. Edu. The 110th Inaugural Lecture equally had in attendance the Chairman of Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council and Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr Emmanuel E. Sideso JP, OON, Abe I. Other guests present were deans, directors of academic and non-academic units of the university, staff and students of the university, family members of the inaugural lecturer and invited guests.

This Morning, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel O. Asagba has graciously approved the extension of school fees payment/course registration deadline to Wednesday, 19 February, 2025

Today, 14th February, 2025, is the deadline for school fees payment and course registration. Students who do not meet up today shall lose their studentship

Examination wasn’t programmed to harm any individual. It’s a piece of exercise regimented to assess the intellectual abilities, cognitive competence , quality of reminiscence, amnesias , retentiveness and inspection of conscience & morality of an individual hinged on a particular context .

If not corrupted, examination are geared towards determining the right persons capable and eligible for elevations, merits, experience-oriented and academic promotions. when you fail any examination there is always an opportunity to rewrite over time because change is the end-result of all true learning.

In Nigeria, the punishment for examination malpractice can be a fine, imprisonment, or both. The Examination Malpractice Act of 1999 states that the maximum punishment is five years in prison or a fine of N50,000.

In DELSU, the punishments for examination malpractice can be so ruinous. Examination malpractice panel has been put in place and when a rebellious student is caught in the act , shall be sanctioned mercilessly.

A victim can be suspended from the university for years or rusticated as the case may be.

It is hereby worthy of note that preparation and dedication to studies during this week of revision can make students Hit the Jackpot of success during the forthcoming examination .
